Sep 03, 2019·I think the felt would rip out and leave the staples in the wood, I could be wrong, I've been wrong before. When I've done a roof, we've put the felt down and knocked a few felt tacks in to hold it in place while we get the batons down, if there is a slight gust of wind it just rips the felt up.
Apr 05, 2003·We use Paslode Heavy-Duty Sheathing Staplers (1 1/2" in by 1/2" crown). They are light and dependable. Other than wall and roof sheathing, I can make them hang housewrap and poly/ felt around doors and windows, but not very well. It's a bit of a dedicated (specialized) tool, but for production framing, it's invaluable to us.

If you can find a roof with staples here because of code, it is easy to identify them because so many have worked up. I was on a shake roof and could see staples worked up over an inch.

Same goes for that plastic covering they are now using in place of fgood old tarpaper/felt. I & W been around for 25yrs I use 5/16 staples in a hammer tacker when it's windy and if I am laying shingles overtop that same day.

Like the felt moisture barrier, the slip sheet can be cut with a box knife and attached with a staple gun. Once the slip sheet is installed, be careful when walking on it. Not only can it be difficult to maintain traction on a sloped roof, but you could tear the slip sheet and cause it to slide out of place. Install the metal roofing.
