It's a good framer, but so nice to be able to shoot the hanger nails without needing another gun. The nails for it are a little harder to find, but you can get them online easily enough.

If you are 'dead-set' on using a pneumatic gun, there are two choices: 1.) Metal fastener gun: Several maufacturers make guns just for joist hangers and brackets.

You can get it to fire sequentially if you jam the nose into the piece and then pull the trigger. When the gun won't fire I'm getting a "pshhh pshhh" sound of air leaking.
